Jamie Carragher had a lot to say about Newcastle United target Nicolo Barella when he thought he could head to Liverpool.
Last night Newcastle caught everyone off guard when it was leaked that the Magpies were in talks to sign Italian star, Nicolo Barella for around £50million.
The Telegraph were the first to run the story which claimed that Barella would become Newcastle’s highest earner if the deal goes through.
Jamie Carragher didn’t have a bad word to say about Barella
However, for a while it was Liverpool who were favourites for his signature and Rousing The Kop ran some quotes from Jamie Carragher on Barella which Newcastle fans will love: “When you think about how teams set up now, you see Inter play with a back three with five in midfield, or a 4-3-3, and I think he’s probably one of the best in Europe playing in that tucked in, right sided central midfield position. He’s box to box, he gets goals from there. We saw how outstanding he was for his national team in winning the European Championships.
“He’s that player who can open things up, he gets in there, but that inside right position now is so important in football and can you make runs from that position? He makes runs ahead of the striker. And he’s a huge goal threat.

“Any top team needs to have goals from midfield. It’ll be really interesting if he actually stays at Inter but you think one day would he go the Premier League or one of the Spanish giants because I certainly think he has the ability to do so.”
The thought of Barella and Bruno in the midfield is mouthwatering
If Barella doesn’t sound like a dream signing for Newcastle then I don’t know what you want. Since the news broke I’ve not stopped dreaming about him and Bruno Guimaraes together in our midfield next season.
Whether Newcastle can actually bag Barella for £50million is up for debate with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Inter will want more and Barella himself will take some convincing to leave his boyhood club.
However, Inter do need to sell to raise funds, so Newcastle could exploit that. Also the ongoing transformation of the club has to be exciting for potential signings, so while I understand why Romano is saying it may not be as far advanced as we’re hearing, I can definitely see this one happening.
