Newcastle now want ‘talented’ star who wowed Wesley Sneijder in priority transfer move

Newcastle United need to reinvest this summer.

Eddie Howe’s squad have struggled to scale the heights they managed last season, that much is very clear.

Newcastle may have enjoyed fantastic moments this season such as the wins over both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park but consistency has been a real issue.

Indeed, the injury crisis has not helped matters of course but recruitment issues have also played their part.

Lewis Hall, after all, is still not deemed ready enough for regular action in the Premier League. Given the struggles Dan Burn has endured at left-back this season and Matt Targett’s continued injury problems, options there have looked a little light.

So then, it perhaps makes sense that the club would look to strengthen there this summer. Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko has recently been tipped for a move and now a new name has emerged.

Newcastle transfer news: Quilindschy Hartman latest

According to Football Transfers, Newcastle have been monitoring the performances of Feyenoord left-back Quilindschy Hartman.

They suggest that a signing in that position is something of a priority for the club this summer and that the 22-year-old is of interest to PIF.

Hartman is thought to be viewed as a player who would suit life in the Premier League and Newcastle are believed to hold a good relationship with the Dutch club, who currently have a certain Yankuba Minteh on loan.

Quilindschy Hartman: Who is Newcastle transfer target and what is his style of play?

Hartman is a left-back who started his youth career with Excelsior Rotterdam before moving to Feyenoord in 2009. He made his professional debut in 2022 and has won four caps for the Netherlands national team.

This season, he has averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.4 key passes per game (via WhoScored). For context. Burn has averaged as many tackles, fewer interceptions (0.9) and fewer key passes (0.3). Hall, meanwhile, sees his averages for those respective metrics stand at 1.2, 0.4 and 0.

Clearly, it’s not as simple as merely translating those numbers across leagues and playing styles but they do indicated perhaps a more industrious presence at left-back than Burn.

Hartman was hailed as a “talented left back with attacking qualities, a nice kick, a decent cross and reasonable speed” by former Feyenoord defender Jan Everse in 2023, while Dutch legend Sneijder marvelled at his performance against Ajax that year too.

‘That was a great move by Hartman. That’s great. He was the Man of the Match for me,” he said.

“We will see Hartman back in the Dutch team in a few months, one hundred percent.”
