Newcastle United are bracing themselves for bids for Bruno Guimaraes next year, as a host of clubs have expressed interest in him.

Interest in the 25-year-old comes as no surprise given his excellent performance levels since joining from Lyon in January 2022, and clubs in England and abroad are eyeing him up.

Newcastle are in talks with Bruno over a new contract, but this is likely to have a substantial release clause, and the club are hoping that he will sign fresh terms ahead of next summer.

Football Transfers have now reported that Newcastle are expecting bids for him next summer, with clubs in Spain and elsewhere in Europe interested. This comes after Newcastle received offers from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain towards the end of the window this year.

Should Newcastle be worried?

Given that Bruno will command a fee of well over £100m, there are only a few clubs who could afford such a fee.

Real Madrid are well stocked in midfield, whilst Barcelona are continuing to struggle financially. PSG could return with a huge money offer, and clubs in the Premier League may also be able to afford a potentially record-breaking fee to land him.

Newcastle should try their best not to sell Bruno, who Alan Shearer described as “really talented,” to a Premier League rival. If he is to leave, then a move abroad would be the best outcome for the Magpies.

Losing him to another Premier League club would not only send the wrong message about Newcastle’s project, but it could actively harm the club’s league chances if a top-four rival is strengthened with Bruno’s arrival.

Newcastle are building a squad which will eventually aim to challenge at the top of the league, and Bruno was one of the first big-name stars to join Eddie Howe’s project. Keeping the Brazil international is a must, and he simply cannot be allowed to join a team near Newcastle in the table.
