We are approaching the final days of the January transfer window and Newcastle are still searching for a new central defender.
Ciaran Clark’s red card in the friendly in Saudi Arabia was the latest reminder of the improvements Eddie Howe still needs to make in that area of the pitch.
Dan Burn remains a live option and was born in the north east. The Athletic are reporting that Newcastle have made an improved bid.

It has apparently been rejected and it was worth an initial £10 million before add-ons for a player who is currently 29.
It appears that Burn is as high up the central defensive list of targets as anyone as Newcastle look elsewhere after failing to sign Diego Carlos.
Burn would be a pragmatic signing like the one of Chris Wood; getting someone in who knows the Premier League and its demands.

It seems Newcastle need to do more to get their man and one issue is that Brighton are under no financial pressure to sell.
It remains to be seen whether Burn will force his way out, but Brighton are not in the relegation dogfight and play good football, with a clear identity.
Newcastle really do need a new central defender before the deadline but time will tell whether it will be Burn, or if Brighton will keep rejecting approaches.
