Newcastle United failed to loan one Arsenal player in the summer, but could now turn to another in January.
The Magpies were heavily linked with signing Kieran Tierney from the Gunners, and there was talk of a loan deal with an option to buy.
However, Newcastle changed their mind and brought in Lewis Hall instead, as Tierney took his talents to Spain with Real Sociedad.
Now Eddie Howe is making plans for January, and it looks like another Arsenal player has caught his eye as he looks to improve his squad.
Newcastle interested in Emile Smith-Rowe loan deal
According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle officials are discussing a potential January move for Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe.

The report states that due to financial fair play, the Magpies would likely prefer to do a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season. However, the Northern Echo add that it is unclear if this type of deal would appeal to Arsenal.
Smith-Rowe was linked with a move to Newcastle late in the summer transfer window, and looks like he would be a good fit at St James’ Park.
His Arsenal career has stagnated
He has been described as a ‘special‘ talent in the past, but is struggling for minutes at the Emirates right now. Smith-Rowe has barely featured for the Gunners this season, as they look to challenge for the Premier League title once again.

The 23-year-old has made six appearances in all competitions this season, with only one of them coming as a starter. That was in the Carabao Cup. In the Premier League, Smith-Rowe has played a total of 10 minutes across two cameos off the bench.
It is clear that he needs a move away from North London, and Tyneside could be the perfect place for him to re-galvanise a once very promising career.
A move to Newcastle would see Smith-Rowe play alongside a couple of players he knows. He came through the Arsenal academy alongside Joe Willock, while he was part of the England Under-21s team that won the European Championship this summer alongside Anthony Gordon.
