After missing out on a move to Newcastle United, it looks like Kieran Tierney’s future is finally going to be resolved.

He was expected to sign for the Magpies earlier this summer, with Eddie Howe identifying him as his top left-back target.

However, talk of a move to St James’ Park died down, only for it to return earlier this month. Newcastle looked into loaning Tierney, with a view to signing him permanently next year.

It was unclear whether or not that would have suited Arsenal, but it did not matter. Despite Newcastle making contact with Tierney, they decided to bring in Lewis Hall instead.

That left Tierney in no man’s land. He is not wanted at Arsenal, and has been training away from the first-team.

Fortunately for his sake, it now looks like he is getting the move away from the Emirates that he desperately needs.

Kieran Tierney to join Real Sociedad on loan

According to the Athletic, Tierney is close to joining La Liga side Real Sociedad on loan. The report states that the deal does not include an option or obligation to buy, but Sociedad are paying a fee for the loan and are covering the 26-year-old’s wages in full.

A move to Spain will afford Tierney the same opportunities that he would have got at Newcastle. He will play regularly for Sociedad, while he will also get the chance to compete in the Champions League.

They are going to be competing in Europe’s elite competition alongside Newcastle, having finished fourth in La Liga last season.

It is a good move for Tierney, and one that could see him come up against the side that he was tipped to join. Newcastle and Real Sociedad could be drawn against each other in the Champions League group stage, depending on what pot each side is in.

The draw takes place next week.
