Newcastle United couldd yet make a late swoop in the transfer window for Valencia defender Mouctar Diakhaby.

According to AS, the Spanish club want to offload the central defender, and he is also keen to depart.

Apparently Newcastle remain an option for the 24-year-old. The same publication told of Newcastle’s interest in June.

Diakhaby is supposedly pushing for a move to the Premier League, with Leicester City also mentioned.

Newcastle have apparently not shut the door on the player.

He would cost between €8-10 million (£6.8-8.5 million) to sign.

It remains to be seen if that kind of asking price will bring Newcastle to the negotiating table.

It has been widely reported that the Magpies will have to look at the loan market if they want to bring in any more new faces this summer.

The signing of Joe Willock was essentially the club’s whole transfer budget for the summer.

Newcastle have conceded six goals in their first three games of 2021/22 and could really do with a new defensive recruit.

Perhaps given the tight finances, Newcastle could look at loan Diakhaby and putting in an obligation to buy.

Or maybe Valencia would accept a staggered payments type of deal.

Diakhaby move is unlikely

Given Valencia are not in a great financial position, it’s hard to see them agreeing to a loan move.

A number of outlets have reported Newcastle’s lack of spending power this summer.

AS say that there remains a chance of a move, but it’s very difficult to see this one happening.

And that’s a shame because the Premier League would potentially suit Diakhaby as a physical centre-back with good aerial prowess.
