Newcastle have a stunning alternative lined up if Hugo Ekitike joins Liverpool, he is ‘top class’

Newcastle United could soon be looking for an alternative to Hugo Ekitike, as Liverpool make their move.

While he has been Newcastle United’s top target, Liverpool want Ekitike too. That is a blow for the Magpies, but also good news as it means their interest in Alexander Isak is likely coming to an end.

However, it will force Eddie Howe to take his striker search elsewhere. Newcastle’s priority is to sign a striker, which is why they have been intensifying their efforts to land Ekitike.

Liverpool could be pushing their way to the front of the queue, but Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle United do have other options.

Newcastle United could turn to Benjamin Sesko after Hugo Ekitike

Newcastle have already missed out on Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, and now Ekitike could potentially join that list.

Fortunately, the next player who they could target is also incredibly exciting. That is according to TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, who has reported that Newcastle United could turn to RB Leipzig superstar Benjamin Sesko if they miss out on Ekitike.

“As we expected, they have now formally registered their interest with Frankfurt in Hugo Ekitike,” he said.

“I guess the question for Newcastle is, not just for their fans but Eddie Howe as well, is the best case scenario here that they keep Alexander Isak but miss out on another target in Hugo Ekitike.

“If that does happen and he ends up at Liverpool, I know Chelsea are watching Ekitike as well, Benjamin Sesko could be the next name on the list in terms of a striker target for Newcastle. He is someone who Eddie Howe has admired for a long time.”

Newcastle United have been scouting Benjamin Sesko

The name Benjamin Sesko is not new to Newcastle United fans. The Slovenian striker was a target for Howe back in 2022 before Isak arrived at St James’ Park.

Newcastle wanted Sesko three years ago, and have continued to admire him ever since. Like Ekitike, he is another player who has justified the Magpies’ initial interest by showcasing the potential that the Newcastle United recruitment team knew he had.

Toon scouts have not stopped watching Sesko, with the Daily Mail reporting at the beginning of May that Newcastle officials had been following the 22-year-old this season.

At the time, the Daily Mail named Sesko as a possible replacement for Isak should the Sweden international leave. However, Newcastle now appear to have changed their approach, as they target someone to play alongside Isak.

Newcastle wanted Ekitike to play with Isak, and it would likely be the same story with Sesko.

He is another thrilling player that the Magpies could pursue, with Sesko described as ‘top class’ by Alan Shearer. And if there is one man that Newcastle United should listen to about goalscorers, it’s Shearer.
