Newcastle feeling ‘productive’ in transfer market in fresh hope after Jacob Ramsey deal confirmed

On Sunday, Newcastle United confirmed the signing of Jacob Ramsey.

Ramsey becomes the fourth senior signing Newcastle United have made this summer, following Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale and Malick Thiaw through the door at St James’ Park.

It has been a difficult summer for the club. The Alexander Isak to Liverpool saga continues to dominate headlines, while Newcastle have missed out on some key transfer targets.

Slowly but surely, however, Eddie Howe’s set-up is starting to take shape. Ramsey, Ramsdale and Thiaw all offer depth to a Newcastle United squad who were desperately lacking it before. 

The Champions League will place a greater strain on the players on Tyneside, so having fresh faces through the door is a welcome boost.

Elanga, meanwhile, looks like an instant starter.

The Isak saga still needs resolving one way or another of course and that will be easier said than done. Still, this summer’s transfer window is starting to look very different now. 

Indeed, it seems the feeling behind the scenes is more positive now.

Newcastle United confident of more signings after Jacob Ramsey

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the feeling at Newcastle is that late August will see the club continue to bring in players.

Howe has already confirmed that Newcastle remain “active” in the transfer market and Jacobs reports there’s a feeling of optimism behind the scenes. 

Taking to social media platform X, Jacobs also revealed that Andy Howe (Eddie’s nephew) led the talks with Villa, which were reportedly sometimes difficult, in the Ramsey deal.

A new striker has to be on the agenda for Newcastle after landing Ramsey.

Regardless of what happens with Isak, the club desperately need to bring in more firepower. Last season, no one outside of Isak got into double figures in the Premier League for goals. 

Newcastle are hoping to sign Yoane Wissa after landing Ramsey.

Still, Newcastle view Wissa as Callum Wilson’s replacement, meaning even his arrival would not unlock the door for Isak to leave for Liverpool.

If they can bring the Brentford forward in during what remains of the window while keeping Isak, it would send quite the statement of intent after a difficult few months.
