Newcastle were as quiet as everyone expected them to be on transfer deadline day.
A move for Hamza Choudhury again failed to materialise and the squad is basically as good as the one which ended last season.
That meant that fans wanting some deadline day excitement had to look elsewhere.
And one deal involving a former Newcastle player caught the eye as the hours ticked on.
Luuk de Jong joined Barcelona on loan from Sevilla, with an option to make the deal permanent.
It means that two of Barca’s main forwards have now had underwhelming spells in the north east.
Former Middlesbrough man Martin Braithwaite will be one of de Jong’s new teammates at the Nou Camp.
De Jong played 12 times for Newcastle and failed to find the net once.
Some Newcastle fans reacted to the late switch on Twitter, on a day known for surprising deals.
Here’s how the news went down with Magpies fans, who are also frustrated about their own club’s lack of movement this summer.
