The Athletic have reported that Newcastle United target Jesse Lingard won’t be leaving Manchester United in January.
The midfielder’s contract is set to expire in the summer, leading to intense speculation that he could seal an early move away next month.
Lingard has barely featured for the Red Devils this season, with rumours of a move to Newcastle or West Ham dominating the back pages.
He was linked with the Magpies shortly after the takeover went through, while his representatives were at St James’ Park for the 3-2 defeat to Tottenham.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Talk of a move for Lingard has since continued. The Times even reported that Newcastle want to make him their best paid player. But that doesn’t look like it will be the case.
The Athletic have reported that Newcastle don’t plan to move for Lingard in January. They add that he intends to stay at Manchester United for the rest of the season.
That’s certainly disappointing for Toon fans. Lingard would have been a huge signing. He’d have improved our squad instantly.
He could be available for nothing in the summer, but he’s the type of player we need right now.

Our priority has to be improving the defence, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need forward players too. The whole squad needs a boost.
It’s odd that the club have now decided they won’t even pursue Lingard. Surely it wouldn’t hurt to test the waters in January? If we don’t move, someone else might. It could open the door for West Ham to sign him for the second time.
While the 29-year-old’s stance is that he’s staying put, that could always change when there’s an offer on the table.
Some Toon fans are disappointed about the Lingard news, whilst naming alternative targets they’d like Amanda Staveley and PIF to have a look at.

Toon fans disappointed as Lingard decides to stay at Man United
I mean our main targets should be defenders and deep midfielders. But lingard would of been very nice so kinda disappointing that we are not going through with it.
