Former Newcastle midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has been linked with a return to St James’ Park.
He only left England in the summer to join Paris Saint-Germain from Liverpool on a free transfer.
But TeamTalk report he has been told he will need to be patient in his bid for increased gametime.
That has apparently raised the prospect of a January exit and Newcastle are one of the clubs who would apparently be keen.
Some Newcastle fans on Twitter have reacted to the link and it is fair to say they are split.
Some have concerns over why he would come back and also over his exit first time around.
Others see it as an opportunity to bring in a Champions League and Premier League winning midfielder.
With Wijnaldum in England as PSG face Manchester City in the Champions League, here is how the rumour went down online…
Rather have Merino back.— Andy Hislop (@AndyHislop1) November 24, 2021
Don’t think it’s turning their nose up mate. not me anyways but I wouldn’t have him. Left first chance he got when we got relegated. Left lpool for Barca but psg offered more money so jumped ship. And now all of sudden wants a return here. Nah after one thing 💷💵💸not worth it— lauren (@laaurenm94) November 24, 2021

100% and give him the captains armband— ryan (@ryanwiilson) November 24, 2021
I’d take a few days off work to pick him up. He’s a class player— brendanslevin (@slevinbren) November 24, 2021
He was too good for us then & he's too good for us now but if he was willing to return we should bite his hand off!— Jamie Broadley (@JJBroadley) November 24, 2021
I’d take him. He’s done it in the premier league before. Maybe get him on a 6 month loan and go from there. We aren’t going to have an abundance of players to choose from who will want to sign permanently if we are still in a precarious position.— rachgileshaigh (@GilesyThe) November 24, 2021
