Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a claim the club are willing to pay £25 million for Kieran Trippier.
The Northern Echo have reported the Magpies are really keen to land the England international next month.
Despite not yet having a new director of football, Newcastle recruitment officials are finalising their plans ahead of January.
Eddie Howe has had talks with Steve Nickson, and the pair have determined Trippier is now a priority target.
The star has enjoyed a really good spell with Atletico Madrid since moving there in 2019.
Last term he won the league title under Diego Simeone, and the player has credited his boss with improving the defensive side of his game.
This season Trippier hasn’t quite been a nailed-on starter, but he’s still clocked up 15 appearances across all competitions.
Apparently, Newcastle are willing to pay £25 million for the former Tottenham Hotspur ace.
Should the club succeed with such an offer, Trippier – whom England boss Gareth Southgate called ‘very underrated’ earlier this year – would become the club’s second most expensive signing after Joelinton.

Newcastle obviously have a lot of money now. But it is still important for Newcastle not to be paying over the odds if they can help it.
Arguably, £25 million for Trippier is a decent price. He may be 31 now, but he’s a solid all-round defender who also has fantastic set-piece delivery.
