Newcastle United are well placed to splash the cash this summer now that the PSR situation has been resolved.
The June 30th deadline has now passed, and it looks like the Magpies have brought in enough money to ensure they comply with profit and sustainability. They did it by letting Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson go, rather than having to cash in on a major star like Anthony Gordon.
However, such was their desperation that they did at least consider selling Gordon as the deadline loomed.
Now, with Paul Mitchell arriving as sporting director, Newcastle United can switch their attention to incomings.
Three new faces have arrived at St James’ Park, but they have not been blockbuster deals. Lloyd Kelly joined the club on a free transfer, while Oydsseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy have signed to beef up the goalkeeping department.

Newcastle to potentially spend £100m on two players
But at least two more signings are expected, and they could be where Newcastle flex their financial muscles.
The Magpies have around £100million to spend, as they eye a new right winger and a right-sided centre-back.
It remains to be seen who they will target in attack, but HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys of two defensive players that the club are considering.
“I think they quite like Federico Gatti from Juventus,” he said.
“There are options out there. It will depend on how much they spend on a winger.
“They’ve got about £100million to spend on the two priority positions, and the majority of it will go on a winger.
“In terms of centre-back targets, Malick Thiaw is on the list, Gatti is on the list.”
Newcastle look towards Italy for a centre-back
Out of the two, Malick Thiaw would probably be the preferred option for fans. He looks ideal to play alongside Sven Botman, with the AC Milan player considered a ‘dream‘ signing by Newcastle’s recruitment team. He could be available for around £34million, which would leave more than £60million to sign the winger that Eddie Howe wants.
But Bailey believes that Federico Gatti of Juventus is also a player who the Magpies admire. He has been at Euro 2024 with Italy, but failed to make a single appearance before the Azzurri were knocked out by Switzerland.
However, the 26-year-old was a regular for Juventus last season. He made 36 appearances in total, scoring four goals – which is impressive from defence. The one concern is that Gatti usually operates as part of a back three, whereas Howe uses a traditional flat back four.
Newcastle should prioritise winger pursuit
It will be interesting to see which position Newcastle target first. Hopefully it is a winger, as that is more pressing. It will arguably be the tougher deal to do as well, as it remains unclear who the Magpies’ top attacking target is.
In contrast, there are plenty of options in defence, including Gatti and Thiaw. There have also been rumours about Marc Guehi, but that feels like it will be a difficult deal to do amid his Euro 2024 heroics.
