Newcastle eyeing £67m swoop for ‘generational talent’ at Real Madrid

Newcastle United remain in waiting for their first big addition in this summer’s transfer market.

Eddie Howe‘s side are now deep into the pre-season efforts with their Japanese tour well underway following Saturday’s victory over Hull City.

However, Newcastle are yet to see a major signing arrive on Tyneside this summer with only two backup goalkeepers, a young prospect and Lloyd Kelly signed this summer.

Considering the injury issues Howe endured last campaign, it would be hard to imagine the Newcastle boss if pleased with how the market is turning out for the Toon.

Newcastle now have Paul Mitchell in as Dan Ashworth’s replacement but the former Tottenham Hotspur man has been unable to work his magic just yet.

But that could potentially change as Newcastle eye a possible deal which would transform the outlook on their window.

Newcastle plotting audacious move for Real Madrid player

Newcastle have been boosted by the return of Joelinton this summer following his injury issues last season.

But the frailties of Howe’s squad depth at St James’ Park were there for all to see last season with the Toon’s busy schedule taking a real toll.

Of course, Newcastle will not have the added games of European football this season, but the injury crisis had to act as a wake up call to the hierarchy to bolster Howe’s options ahead of the new season.

According to Defensa Central, Newcastle could be willing to offer around €80m (£67m) for midfielder Arda Guler this summer.

It is a move which would certainly shock Europe given Guler only joined Madrid last summer and excelled in the Euros.

But the 19-year-old has struggled for minutes since landing at the Bernabeu having only racked up 443 minutes across the entire 2023/24 campaign.

An intermediary has reportedly been sent to seek out the possibility of Guler leaving Madrid this summer with a Premier League side willing to pay big money.

The money involved would be an initial €60m (£50.5m) with €20m (£16.5m) in add-ons but it is a deal which would smash Newcastle’s transfer record for Alexander Isak, all in.

Newcastle could land ‘generational talent’ in Arda Guler

For any fans who were not aware of the talent this young midfielder possesses, Guler made everyone aware with his stunning strike in the Euros for Turkey.

Transfer expert Dean Jones hailed Guler as a ‘generational talent‘ as well as ‘one of the best talents’ his nation has ever produced.

Still just 19 years of age, Guler – despite his struggles last season – is clearly a player with bags of potential having been scouted by Real Madrid.

But whether Newcastle would be willing to spend this type of money this summer on a player who has struggled in his first season in a top five league is a whole other question.
