Newcastle could repeat Yankuba Minteh trick as Toon officials scout ‘tremendous’ talent

Newcastle United were looking towards the future when they bought Yankuba Minteh in 2023.

The Magpies signed an extremely exciting but relatively unknown winger from Odense BK, with Newcastle United officials hoping he would develop into a Premier League star.

That is exactly what has happened, but Yankuba Minteh is shining for Brighton rather than Newcastle United.

Newcastle sold Minteh to Brighton over the summer as a way to solve their PSR situation. The decision to sign Minteh paid off in a big way, as Toon officials were able to cash in on him and receive £33million. However, the actual goal was for him to play at St James’ Park in a black and white.

And now with Paul Mitchell at the helm as sporting director, Newcastle will be looking to make more signings like the Minteh deal from 2023.

Newcastle interested in Bazoumana Toure

Newcastle have already announced the signing of Vakhtang Salia from Dinamo Tbilisi, an exciting 17-year-old from Georgia.

Now Newcastle have got their eye on another exciting teenager, with the Magpies interested in Hammarby winger Bazoumana Toure.

That is according to TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Newcastle’s interest in the 18-year-old Ivorian attacker.

“He’s a tremendous prospect,” he said.

“He can play both sides, right and left wing. A lot of clubs are looking at him.

“If the finances [at Newcastle] are tricky, a deal for a player like Toure might not be a surprise. He’s got a good pedigree. He’s probably in the same category as Yankuba Minteh when he joined Newcastle. Newcastle loaned him to Feyenoord, but evidence suggests he was probably ready to play straight away. This boy could be as well.

“Newcastle are not alone, a lot of clubs are looking at him. Toure is a very highly rated. He could cost between €15million and €20million.”

Who is Bazoumana Toure?

Bazoumana Toure is an 18-year-old winger who plays for Hammarby in Sweden. He joined them earlier this year, arriving from Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas.

He is incredibly quick, and predominantly plays on the left flank. Toure is left-footed.

The Ivory Coast Under-20 international has made 22 appearances for Hammarby in the Swedish top flight this season, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

Toure is represented by the Unique Sports Group, who also represent the likes of Anthony Gordon, Callum Wilson and Lewis Miley. Whether that could help Newcastle land the teenager remains to be seen.

But Toure is a very exciting prospect, and the type of player that Mitchell will be keen to bring to St James’ Park. Hopefully this is not the last we hear of Newcastle’s interest in him.
