Newcastle United have officially announced the signing of Vakhtang Salia.

The Magpies have already lined up a transfer for the summer of 2025, with Vakhtang Salia set to arrive at St James’ Park from Dinamo Tbilisi.

It was reported in late September that Newcastle were set to sign Salia, and now we know that the 17-year-old will head to Tyneside in August 2025 once he turns 18.

Until then, the Georgian teenager will continue to play for Dinamo Tbilisi.

Newcastle United will be delighted to get this deal done, and the hope will be that Salia goes on to achieve his potential in a black and white shirt.

Salia is relatively unknown, but Newcastle will hope that this transfer is looked back upon fondly in a few years.

That will depend on Salia’s development. He has been bought because of his potential, with the Magpies taking a bit of a risk on a very young forward from Georgia.

Paul Mitchell is happy to finalise the deal, and the Toon sporting director has spoken to Newcastle’s official website about the signing of Salia.

“We’re delighted to get ahead of a number of other top clubs to sign Vakhtang,” he said.

“Scouting and recruiting emerging talent is an essential part of building a sustainable future, particularly within the current PSR framework, so the market is fiercely competitive.

“We continue to scout extensively, both domestically and overseas, with a view to securing players who can come through our talent pathway and, ideally, become part of the first team in future.

“We look forward to working with Vakhtang and wish him every success during his remaining time with Dinamo Tbilisi.”

Newcastle are going to complete more deals like this amid PSR problems

Mitchell has noted that Newcastle beat some big clubs to secure Salia’s signature.

That is encouraging, as it suggests that Salia is an exciting talent with a lot of potential, and that the Newcastle United project is something that players like him want to be a part of.

The Newcastle United sporting director will be eager to complete more deals like this one, as the club try and find a way to avoid the perils of PSR. By doing this, Newcastle can nurture their own talent into first-team stars without spending mega money, or develop them so much that they can be sold for a profit. In turn, that would allow Newcastle to reinvest.

With the Salia deal completed, it will be interesting to see who will be the next youngster on Newcastle’s radar.

The recruitment drive will not stop for Mitchell, who has made it very clear that the club’s transfer strategy needs to change. Expect more deals like this in the near future.
