Newcastle could make move for ‘excellent’ West Ham player if Anthony Gordon leaves

Newcastle United need to resolve Anthony Gordon’s future as soon as possible.

The 23-year-old almost left St James’ Park earlier this summer, with Newcastle offering Anthony Gordon to Liverpool in an attempt to salvage their desperate PSR situation.

Toon officials were scrambling to comply PSR, so much so that they were reluctantly willing to lose one of their best players from the 2023/24 season.

Fortunately, Newcastle United found another way. Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh left, while Dan Ashworth’s departure to Man United was finalised. Now the Magpies should be financially compliant, and they have done it without losing a major star.

But rumours of Gordon leaving have continued, with the chance to play for Liverpool proving to be a tantalising prospect for a Scouser who supported the Reds growing up.

Newcastle are set to hold contract talks with Gordon very soon in an attempt to tie him down to a new deal, and those negotiations are going to be vital. If they do not result in a new deal, the temptation to sell could become very real, with Gordon only having two years left to run on his current contract.

Newcastle could raid West Ham if they lose Anthony Gordon

If the worst does happen and Newcastle do sell Gordon this summer, they will need to find a replacement.

That will be extremely difficult, but the Magpies’ search would be aided by the money they would receive for the England international.

And, according to iNews, Newcastle United could look to West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen or Mohammed Kudus if they were to lose Gordon.

Bowen is not a new name on the Magpies’ radar this summer, with the 27-year-old named as a top target in July. However, Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Bowen to Newcastle is a non-starter.

Mohammed Kudus would be an incredible replacement for Gordon

Bowen would be a good addition, but Mohammed Kudus would be even better.

The Ghana international joined West Ham from Ajax last summer, and took the Premier League by storm during his debut year. He was absolutely incredible for the Hammers, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in all competitions.

Toon fans saw first hand how good Kudus is, with the 24-year-old shining during the 4-3 thriller between Newcastle and West Ham in March.

Kudus scored and got an assist for West Ham that day, with David Moyes describing him as ‘excellent‘. The attacker made a serious impression at St James’ Park, although headlines were hogged by his altercation with a ball boy and Newcastle’s remarkable comeback.

But Kudus really was incredible that day, and showed exactly why the Magpies made a mistake not signing him when they had the chance.

That chance could come back around if Gordon leaves, but it will come at a cost. West Ham will want to make a profit after signing him for £38million in 2023, while his £85million release clause is not active again until next summer.

Just like we do with Bruno Guimaraes, West Ham hold all the cards when it comes to Kudus’ fee following the expiration of his release clause this summer.
