Newcastle United have made some major signings since PIF and co bought the club from Mike Ashley, and discussions are already taking place about who the next superstar to arrive at St James’ Park could be.
The Magpies have spent big on the likes of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon, who all boast massive potential to help take Newcastle to the next level.
They have all had a huge impact at Newcastle since joining Eddie Howe’s side, and now a new report from TEAMtalk has named Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz as the next major name who Dan Ashworth could look to bring to St James’ Park.
Newcastle interested in Florian Wirtz
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are one of five Premier League clubs who are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz in the future.
The report states that Newcastle, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have all been looking at the Germany international, who looks set to command a huge fee at the age of 20.
TEAMtalk add that the Magpies have been tracking Wirtz as they look at players who they could sign for their next phase, while Chelsea are named as the club with the strongest interest at this moment in time.
Manchester City are also described as ‘key admirers’, and it is easy to understand why.

Wirtz is already a top level player at such a young age, and has done brilliantly to come back from a major injury so early on in his career. He is now back and flying in a Bayer Leverkusen shirt, helping Xabi Alonso’s side go top of the Bundesliga.
The attacking midfielder has been described as a ‘very special‘ footballer, and he is the type of player that Howe would love to work with on Tyneside.
The Newcastle boss has been looking at attacking midfielders in recent months, with James Maddison and Dominik Szoboszlai both major targets during the summer transfer window. However, they joined Premier League rivals Tottenham and Liverpool respectively, and have already proven to be major hits at their new club.
They have shown why Newcastle should have made a move, but all will be forgotten if the club are capable of signing Florian Wirtz. However, that will be easier said than done. He is one of Europe’s most in-demand players, with the world’s biggest sides all keen to secure his signature.
