Newcastle United are once again targeting Conor Gallagher, and have a plan if they are unable to sign the Chelsea midfielder on loan.
It was reported on Sunday that the Magpies are considering a loan move for the 23-year-old, while they are also interested in a temporary deal for Manchester City man Kalvin Phillips.
Newcastle are looking to the loan market, and are eyeing deals for two players who could struggle for minutes at their current club next season.
That may or may not be the case for Gallagher, who is set to work with a new manager at Stamford Bridge in Mauricio Pochettino. However, it is unclear if he will have a future under the Argentinian boss.
The Magpies are keen to make another midfield signing after Sandro Tonali, and are once again interested in Gallagher. He has been a consistent target in recent transfer windows, and was even keen on a move to St James’ Park in January.

That did not happen, but now Newcastle have a fresh plan to try and sign the ‘fantastic‘ player.
Newcastle eye Conor Gallagher deal
According to 90min, Newcastle would prefer to sign Gallagher on loan. However, they appreciate that a temporary switch might not suit Chelsea, and will therefore consider making a permanent bid.
However, that could inevitably lead to more problems for Newcastle, who are being priced out of plenty of targets this summer. Tino Livramento is currently proving to be too expensive, while Toon officials were unwilling to activate Dominik Szoboszlai’s release clause.
It will likely all depend on how Chelsea view Gallagher. If Pochettino wants to work with him then this is a non-starter.
But if he decides that Gallagher is expendable then Newcastle at least have a chance. Then it will be up to Dan Ashworth and co to try and strike a deal with the Blues, which has proven to be difficult over the past 12 months.

They now see us as a rival, and do not want to play a part in improving Eddie Howe’s squad. Therefore, it is likely that they will command a hugely inflated fee.
Gallagher is a long-term target for the Magpies, despite being someone that most fans are not keen on signing. Despite all this, it still feels incredibly unlikely that he will ever be allowed to move to Tyneside.
It’s one to watch, but not one to get your hopes up over.
