Kieran Trippier’s first message to Sandro Tonali released in Newcastle footage

Sandro Tonali is joining quite the family at Newcastle United.

Now the Italian is through the door at St James’ Park, a new chapter of his career begins.

While team spirit and unity are not a particularly tangible things to measure, the success Eddie Howe has delivered has been based on that as much as it has been because of on-field quality.

With the midfielder obviously emotional about leaving AC Milan, Newcastle can at least offer him what is currently a happy-looking environment to make such a huge step in his career.

In fact, Kieran Trippier has already vowed to help.

While the team captain had already sent a message on social media, the club have released footage of their first meeting as Newcastle teammates on their official Twitter account.

With Tonali shown around the club’s Benton training base, Trippier stopped by to say hello.

When Sporting director Dan Ashworth asks Trippier if they’ve ever played against each other, the defender jokes: “He ran past me too many times for Italy!

“Yeah, played against him a few times, we played [in the] Champions [League]. Atletico [Madrid], we got lucky as they had a man sent off.

“We went 1-0 up and [Diego] Simeone after twenty minutes went to six at the back.”

Looking at Tonali, Trippier than says: “It’s good, happy to have you here.

“Are you excited?

“If you ever need any help I’m always here to help you settle. I know how hard it is to move to a different country.

“I’m always here if you need any help about the city, the team, anything, I’m here.”

£12m on Trippier is going a long way

Not only has Trippier been a roaring success on the pitch since his £12m signing from Atletico Madrid, this kind of work makes that fee look like even more of a bargain.

Of course, a captain is hardly ever going to come in and be rude but everything we’ve seen from the England defender so far would suggest it is meant with the utmost authenticity.

It is a major life change for Tonali off the pitch and there will be huge pressure on it next season too, such is the nature of being a big money signing for a team with the spotlight on them.

To have a captain like Trippier helping along the way can only be a good thing.
