Newcastle United are looking to sign a right-back and a left-back this summer, with the latter being much more pressing than the former.
While Dan Burn did brilliantly on the left of defence, he is more suited to playing centrally. Therefore, anyone who Eddie Howe brings in will be pushing for a place in the starting XI.
In contrast, a right-back recruit will serve as deputy to Kieran Trippier, which is perhaps less urgent. However, that is the position that Newcastle are prioritising right now, with the Magpies making a move to sign Tino Livramento from Southampton.
The left-back search has taken a backseat, despite previous claims that Kieran Tierney is expected to move to St James’ Park from Arsenal.
It has been reported that the club feel like Arsenal want too much money for the Scotland international, who has an asking price of £30million.

Now the Scottish Sun have provided an update on the future of the 26-year-old ‘warrior‘.
Newcastle favourites to sign Kieran Tierney, but Celtic could cause a problem
According to the Scottish Sun, Tierney is weighing up his options ahead of the 2023/24 season. They add that Newcastle remain the favourites to sign the former Celtic star. However, it is actually Celtic who could pose a problem.
The report adds that Tierney would consider a return to Glasgow, having left the Hoops in 2019 to sign for Arsenal. The Scottish Sun suggest that a loan move is possible.
Whether or not that would appeal to Arsenal remains to be seen. They would still have to find a replacement, but it would at least mean that they are not strengthening a direct rival like they would if they sold him to Newcastle.

Talk of Tierney to Tyneside has gone quiet, but hopefully this is a deal that resurfaces in the coming weeks and months. He would be a brilliant signing for Eddie Howe, and a player who would walk into our starting XI.
This report believes that we are still the favourites, but add that Celtic could pose a threat. They can offer Champions League football, while the emotional pull of a Scottish homecoming could be too much to resist.
File this in the ‘one to watch’ category for now.
