Newcastle United are once again looking to add to their youth ranks this summer as well as making big first-team signings.

Although Dan Ashworth is now leaving as Sporting Director, the transfer model of the club remains the same and they are very keen on seeking out the best young talent from around the world.

A report from the Daily Record now claims that Newcastle are one of a handful of Premier League teams who could make a move for Kilmarnock striker Zander Craik this summer.

18-year-old striker wanted by Newcastle in bargain move

There’s not an awful lot of data on Craik given that he is yet to make his first-team debut for the Scottish side, but he’s been impressing in their youth ranks lately.

With the likes of Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Leeds as well as Newcastle all targeting a move for the youngster he’s clearly shown a lot of potential and could be the next addition to the Geordies’ academy.

It wouldn’t exactly be a major signing that is going to massively impact the outcome of next season, but it’s a sign that Newcastle are looking towards the future, something they rarely did under Mike Ashley’s ownership.

Craik’s contract is set to expire in the summer hence why a number of clubs are keeping an eye on his situation ready to pounce on a bargain deal, but Kilmarnock are working hard to get him to sign a new deal.

Craik could be Newcastle’s next top youngster

Since being taken over, Newcastle have signing some exciting young talents in the last two years with the likes of Yankuba Minteh, Garang Kuol and Alfie Harrison all joining the club.

The Magpies have also made some key additions further down the academy with some exciting teenagers arriving in the last 12 months who have been tipped to develop into first-team stars in the next five years.

Having watched the academy be completely neglected in the last 15 years or so and a number of top talents leave for bigger clubs, this is breath of fresh air.

Very recently Newcastle fans had to watch Bobby Clark, son of Lee Clark, lift the Carabao Cup with Liverpool just a couple of years after leaving Newcastle’s academy for next to nothing, and they’ll be hoping they never allow that to happen again.
