Newcastle United are still exploring a move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.
Taking to ‘The Done Deal Show’ on The Football Terrace’s YouTube channel, the reporter suggested that the Magpies are still in for the 26-year-old, but it will be a difficult deal to get over the line.
“In terms of exits, Scott McTominay is one to watch,” Jacobs said.

“Manchester United are very clear that they don’t want to let him go, but Newcastle, who haven’t been busy in this January window, are still exploring that situation – at least on the player’s side.
“It’s going to be very difficult though to persuade Manchester United, but you can understand from McTominay’s perspective since Casemiro has come in and been world class, why he might want a bit more game time.
“We’re going to have to wait and see on that one.”
Newcastle want to sign McTominay
The Scotland international has been a useful asset for the Red Devils this season. Thus far, he has played 21 games this term. While only 12 of these matches have been in the Premier League, he has featured in five Europa League fixtures and all three Carabao Cup clashes.
Therefore, it is simple to see why Erik ten Hag would want to keep McTominay at Old Trafford, having once been hailed by Jose Mourinho as a ‘special’ player.
However, as Jacobs said, it’s equally as easy to understand why the midfielder may want to move elsewhere, in search of regular game-time.

Whilst this might be the case, it is unlikely Man United would allow him to join Newcastle.
Both sides are in a race for a place in the top-four, and they potentially come up against one another in the final of the League Cup.
Furthermore, with Donny van de Beek out injured, it would be strange to see United let go of a midfield player.
Therefore, this transfer may be a bit far-fetched for Eddie Howe to secure, meaning the club should look elsewhere to sign a new midfielder.
