Newcastle United could look towards the Championship as they continue their search for a winger.
Eddie Howe wanted to bring in a right winger during the summer transfer window, with Newcastle United seeking an upgrade on Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron.
Michael Olise was the player who Eddie Howe wanted, but he completed a big money move to Bayern Munich. Elsewhere, Pedro Neto and Crysencio Summerville joined Chelsea and West Ham respectively, while Jarrod Bowen and Noni Madueke were unattainble.
With no wide player arriving during the summer, Paul Mitchell’s search will carry on ahead of the January transfer window. It has been reported that Newcastle’s January priority is to sign a winger.
Newcastle United watching Luca Koleosho
However, it remains be seen who the Magpies will target. Mitchell will aim to think outside the box, with Newcastle preparing to overhaul their recruitment process.
One option could see Newcastle target a Championship player, with HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey telling Geordie Boot Boys that the Magpies have got their eye on Burnley star Luca Koleosho.

“Luca Koleosho is a special player,” he said.
“He’s a wonderful talent, and it is no surprise that Newcastle United are looking at him. He’s one to keep an eye on.
“Koleosho is one who Burnley could struggle to keep hold of in January. Burnley have got a few issues financially, and there is a need for them to sell.”
Luca Koleosho has started the season well
Luca Koleosho was part of the Burnley team that were relegated from the Premier League last season, having joined in the summer of 2023 from Espanyol.
The winger made 15 Premier League appearances, but missed most of the campaign with a knee injury.
The 20-year-old is now fit once again, and has started the Championship season brightly for Scott Parker’s side.
Capable of playing on the left and the right, Koleosho has scored twice in five league appearances for Burnley, with the Clarets third in the table.
Newcastle have also been looking at another Burnley player
Koleosho is not the only Burnley player that Newcastle United have been looking at.
The Magpies spent the summer chasing James Trafford, with Eddie Howe keen to strengthen his goalkeeping options. There is concern at Newcastle that they do not have Nick Pope’s successor, which is why Trafford was linked with a move to Tyneside.
Newcastle wanted to sign Trafford on deadline day, but that move did not come to fruition once it became apparent that another goalkeeper would not be leaving St James’ Park.
But Newcastle continue to monitor Trafford, and they have also got their eye on his teammate Luca Koleosho.
