A report by 90Min has offered an update on Newcastle’s left-back situation.
They report that Rogerio of Sassoulo is the top target and that the Magpies are in talks to get him through the door before the deadline.
But they also claim that 23-year-old Genk defender Gerardo Arteaga is a potential option as a backup.

Arteaga has ten caps for Mexico already, having made his debut against the United States of America in September 2018.
He has made 30 appearances in all competitions for Genk this season, finding the net twice and laying on another four goals for teammates.
The Mexican has got Europa League experience this term too, coming up against West Ham in the group stage.

His ability to get forward and lay on assists would be a bonus for Newcastle if Eddie Howe can implement the kind of football he is known for at St James’ Park.
But in the short term, the priority is shoring up the backline and it would be hoped that Arteaga could do that if Newcastle turned to him.
There would be risk involved given his lack of Premier League experience, but that is also the case with Rogerio. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can get the reinforcements they are after in the closing weeks of the window.
