For the third transfer window in a row, Newcastle United’s priority is to sign a centre-back.
Newcastle wanted Marc Guehi last summer, but Paul Mitchell could not reach an agreement with Crystal Palace.
There was no fresh move for Guehi in January. Instead, Newcastle tried to sign Abdukodir Khusanov.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, Khusanov joined Manchester City as PSR forced Eddie Howe’s side to miss out.
Now the summer of 2025 has arrived, and Newcastle United’s priority remains the same.
Newcastle are interested in Guehi again, as he gets set to enter the final year of his Crystal Palace contract.

Marc Guehi ‘doubt’ emerges for Newcastle United
It could all depend on the price, as Newcastle United weigh up whether or not to officially make a fresh move for the 24-year-old.
They were willing to pay £70million for him in 2024, but that will not be the case in 2025.
Newcastle will expect to pay a much more reasonable fee, while the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has suggested that Toon officials actually have some doubts regarding whether or not to sign Guehi.
“Yes, they do like him,” he said.
“If there was a deal to be done there at a reasonable price, I think they probably would.
“But the more they watch Guehi and look at Guehi, there is that little seed of doubt there.
“I know why. I’ve watched him for England. I think he’s very good and under Eddie Howe would improve. Every player does. Guehi has got the potential.
“I still think he’s missing that bit of aggression you need as a centre-back.”
How many fouls did Marc Guehi commit this season?
Sometimes aggression can boil over, and it can result in fouls being committed.
During the 2024/25 Premier League season, Guehi committed 24 fouls in total. He ranks joint-130th for the entire Premier League.
In comparison, Antoine Semenyo committed the highest number of fouls with 73. Down in sixth is Bruno Guimaraes, who committed the most fouls of any Newcastle United player with 65.
Despite committing 41 more fouls than Guehi, Bruno and the Crystal Palace captain picked up the same amount of yellow cards (seven).
While Guehi might lack some aggression, he is incredibly calm. That is equally important, and it was on display last summer when he represented England at the European Championship.
Guehi was England’s best player out in Germany, with Micah Richards praising the young defender.
“He [Guehi] was very calm and composed,” he told BBC Sport after England’s 1-0 win over Serbia.
“It must be daunting to enter your first major tournament at times, but he did not show it at all.”
