Throughout the summer of 2019, there was talk of Sean Longstaff leaving Newcastle for Manchester United. And it seems as though nothing has changed in 2020.
According to ESPN, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering a move for the Toon youngster as he looks to ease his injury crisis in midfield. Another target is former Liverpool ace Emre Can.
Manchester United were put off Longstaff over the summer because of his huge £50 million valuation, but it’s hard to see the Magpies demanding the same amount of money this time.
The 21-year-old has really struggled this season, unable to recapture the form that catapulted him to stardom this time last year.
Longstaff hasn’t been able to command a place in Steve Bruce’s starting XI, with his most recent start coming in the Boxing Day drubbing at Old Trafford. The academy product was particularly bad on that day, which makes Manchester United’s renewed interest all the more confusing.
And with Newcastle suffering their own injury crisis, it’s hard to see a player like Longstaff leaving this month.
