Manchester United confirm ‘lots of late calls’ as they battle Newcastle United for Benjamin Sesko

Newcastle United are locked in a battle with Manchester United for the signing of Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Newcastle have made a club-record bid for Sesko, who could come into the club as a replacement for Alexander Isak.

Still, RB Leipzig want Newcastle to improve their offer for Sesko, reportedly because of the structure of the payments.

Newcastle want Sesko to make a decision on his future quickly, with the Red Devils also said to be lurking.

Ruben Amorim’s side have already beaten Newcastle to the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer and the longer the Sesko saga goes on, the more fans will fear that the striker is bound for Old Trafford.

Speaking while away on pre-season tour with the club, Man United CEO Omar Berrada confirmed they remained active in the transfer market.

Manchester United ‘working around the clock’ amid Benjamin Sesko battle

Berrada admitted that the club are “working around the clock” as they look to further add to their squad.

It is Amorim’s first full season in charge in Manchester and he’s already been backed heavily.

Mbeumo and Cunha are statement signings and the idea that Sesko could join them too will be a concern for Newcastle.

“We have to do a lot of multitasking,” he said.

“We have a team back home led by Jason, the recruitment team, that is working around the clock to ensure that we continue to find opportunities to strengthen our squad. There are lots of late calls and early morning meetings to make sure that we stay on top of it.”

Why Manchester United haven’t bid for Benjamin Sesko yet

Man Utd haven’t made a bid for Sesko at the time of writing, reportedly because they are waiting for the green light from the player.

It has been claimed that Newcastle, meanwhile, are hoping to agree a deal with Leipzig and that the German club will tell him to join Eddie Howe’s side as they are offering the most money.

There’s certainly some logic to that approach but Sesko’s own preference needs to be factored into the equation.

If he is holding out for Manchester United, then Newcastle need to start moving on.
