Newcastle United have not made many mistakes in the transfer market during the PIF era.
While it would have been nice to see Newcastle United spend more money and not be so hamstrung by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the funds they have invested have generally been put to good use.
Indeed, it’s difficult to think of too many mistakes the PIF regime have made in the transfer market. As such, the recruitment staff at St James’ Park will surely have earned an awful lot of trust from supporters.
Still, a potential move for Jack Grealish has split supporters online.
Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing Grealish, who has been tipped to leave Manchester City on loan this summer.
Here’s how fans reacted.

Newcastle United fans react to Jack Grealish transfer update
At 29 and looking a declining force right now, it seems a number of Newcastle fans are not particularly happy about the prospect of signing the England international.
Grealish strangely criticised former Newcastle player Miguel Almiron back in 2022 and was briefly embroiled with something of a rivalry with Toon fans as a result.
While that has subsided somewhat, it seems as if Newcastle fans aren’t delighted with a potential move for the former Aston Villa star.
Another fan claimed: “Fans have lost the plot. Who in the right frame of mind thinks Grealish is what the team needs right now?”
“I don’t think he offers much more than Gordon or Barnes carrying the ball but he has way less output than all 3 of our wingers,” added one fan.
Another said: “Absolutely not happening on a number of levels – not our current policy – salary is too high – don’t need a Left sided player. He’s not what he was and he’s too old.”
“He just doesn’t fit the profile. He’s on huge wages, he’s nearly 30, he hardly plays etc. Listen to the club they’ve given clues, they want to lower the age profile of the squad. Grealish doesn’t fit that,” wrote one supporter.
Jack Grealish salary: How much is Newcastle United transfer target paid?
According to Capology, Grealish is paid around £300k-per-week at Man City.
Even if the Etihad club contributed some of his wages in a potential loan move, it’s hard to imagine them picking up the full bill.
Bruno Guimaraes is Newcastle’s highest-paid player on a reported £160k-per-week. Should City even pay half of Grealish’s salary, he’d still arrive as one of Newcastle’s biggest earners.
| Player | Salary |
| Bruno Guimaraes | £160k-per-week |
| Joelinton | £150k-per-week |
| Anthony Gordon | £150k-per-week |
| Sandro Tonali | £120k-per-week |
| Kieran Trippier | £120k-per-week |
| Alexander Isak | £120k-per-week |
Given that he has not performed particularly well in recent seasons, it would be a significant financial decision even before considering footballing matters
