Liverpool are said to be pushing to sign Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich coming off the back of links to Newcastle United.
A couple of days ago there were reports that Newcastle were interested in 21-year-old Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich. That seems to have woken up Liverpool who are now, according to The Mirror, pushing to get a deal tied up for the former Ajax midfielder.
Gravenberch only joined Bayern last summer in a deal worth around £17million, which is a snip for such a highly rated youngster, but that’s likely to not put Newcastle and Liverpool off trying their luck with a move.
Gravenberch’s Bayern career didn’t get off to a great start
However, things haven’t gone as expected for Gravenberch and he now considering his options this summer after not playing as much first-team football as he’d have liked in his debut season in Germany not even breaking the 1000 minute mark in all competitions over 33 appearances.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer told Bild : “In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player. That’s why we brought him. He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.” which suggests that Bayern want to retain his services.

Liverpool however, will test Gravenberch by offering him similar terms to what he’s on at Bayern, believed to be around £200,000-a-week, to switch to Merseyside.
Fabrizio Romano chipped in earlier this year saying that Gravenberch would be a ‘perfect‘ signing for Liverpool.
Newcastle could still challenge for Gravenberch this summer
What this means for Newcastle’s apparent interest is so far unknown, but it’s a fairly recent link that’s surfaced in the media, and if there was any real truth to Eddie Howe preparing any kind of move for Gravenberch we’d have heard more about it by now, is my thinking.

So far it looks like a two horse race between Liverpool and his current club Bayern Munich. Which is a shame as Newcastle could definitely benefit from the Ryan Gravenberch who made his name at Ajax under Erik ten Hag playing as a defensive midfielder.
Eddie Howe is looking for a deep lying midfielder for Newcastle and Gravenberch has that position down pat, but he can also chip in with the odd goal and assist. Ideal for the way we currently play, but I just don’t see this one happening, unfortunately.
