Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch is said to be unhappy at the German giants and Newcastle United will look to take advantage of the situation.

Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is set to force a move away from Bayern Munich as he’s reportedly unhappy with the game time he’s getting at the Bavarian club.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle and Liverpool have made contact with Bayern over a £43million move for the 20-year-old this summer. Fabrizio Romano has recently cited the midfielder as the ‘perfect‘ signing for Liverpool, but now it looks like they’ll face stiff competition from the Magpies.

Gravenberch’s switch to Bayern Munich hasn’t gone as planned

It is Gravenberch’s first season in Germany but things haven’t gone as planned for the former Ajax man since his £16million move in the summer. In fact of his 21 Bundesliga appearances this season, he started just two games.

During his time at Ajax, Gravenberch was touted as the next big thing and Bayern Munich were quick to snap up the Netherlands international and it was believed that he’d thrive under Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern, but Nagelsmann was sacked in March with Thomas Tuchel replacing him.

Now Newcastle have realised that there’s a potential to liberate him from his contract at Bayern, although the German side seemingly have no interest in selling.

Gravenberch’s versatility in the midfield would be a huge boost to Newcastle’s options next season as he’s able to play as a holding midfielder or attacking midfield and anything in between. He’s more comfortable dictating play and has been likened to Brighton‘s Alexis Mac Allister and Newcastle target Khephren Thuram by FBref.

Newcastle could beat Liverpool to the punch if the Reds fail to nab a CL place

Ryan Gravenberch is one of those names that seems to have been around forever, but he’s still so young and maybe Bayern’s plan was always to bed him in slowly, but it doesn’t seem like that was Gravenberch’s plan when he signed. He’s now likely to try and force Bayern’s hand into selling him this summer with a move to the Premier League looking most likely.

Newcastle may feel that if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League that they may have the advantage in the race for his signature, although the report does also say that Manchester United boss Eric ten Hag is an admirer but has yet to make a move.

I’d love to see Gravenberch at Newcastle. He’s a product of the Ajax academy which is often a sign of a great player. If Bayern haven’t seen his potential yet, then let Eddie Howe show them how it’s done.
