Newcastle United have been linked with signing Spanish sensation Gabri Veiga this summer, but now a move to Liverpool could be on the horizon.
Veiga is a man in demand after enjoying a breakthrough season with Celta Vigo. He has been excellent in La Liga, leading to interest from Newcastle, Arsenal and Real Madrid.
If he is going to change clubs this summer, he will cost £35million. That is how much his release clause his worth, and the Celta president Carlos Mourino has made it clear that they are not going to let him go for anything less.
That is reportedly not a problem for the Magpies, as it has been reported that the club are prepared to pay £35million to add him to Eddie Howe’s squad.
However, a move to the North West rather than the North East could be looming.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are the new favourites to sign Veiga when the summer transfer window opens. They state that the Reds are in pole position to do a deal, and are willing to activate his release clause – unlike Real Madrid.
TEAMtalk add that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the 20-year-old, and believes he can become a star under his guidance.
He could do that under the management of Eddie Howe too, but it is now Liverpool who are leading the race to secure his signature.
That is a shame, as Veiga is a real talent. He has been described as ‘amazing‘ by the Spanish media, and the numbers back it up. The attacking midfielder has got nine goals and four assists this season. That equals 13 goal contributions in total, which is more than any Newcastle centre-midfielder has got.
Howe will be keen for his side to score more goals from midfield next season, which is why he wants to sign a player like Veiga. He is also someone who can grow and develop – he clearly has a lot of potential.
However, it currently looks like it will be Liverpool where he gets the chance to realise that potential.
