Goal have reported that a number of teams are chasing the 24-year-old.
Supposedly at the moment, Brighton and Burnley are leading the race.
But the Magpies are said to be in contact, over a player who finished 2020/21 quite strongly.
Phillips was something of an unsung hero for Liverpool as they ultimately secured a third-place finish in the league.
The Reds shored up defensively following a very poor spell at the start of 2021.
Phillips produced a string of good displays alongside Rhys Williams, and it seems his contributions haven’t gone unnoticed.
Goal say the defender would be open to leaving Liverpool this summer.
Newcastle certainly need to sign a centre-half.
Fabian Schar is staying for another season, but Florian Lejeune could be sold.
If the Frenchman departs, then he’d need replacing.

Quite a few Liverpool fans have expressed their disappointment that Phillips could be sold.
