Reported summer Newcastle United target Aaron Ramsey could apparently be allowed to leave Juventus on a free transfer in January.

That is the claim from The Sun, who suggest the former Arsenal man could be heading back to the Premier League.

Ramsey is currently struggling for minutes at Juve.

The 30-year-old has made just four appearances so far in 2021/22, just one of which was a start.

The Sun say Newcastle are one of a few English clubs keen on Ramsey.

Apparently, Everton and West Ham are also interested in him and are on alert about his potential availability.

It follows a claim back in August that Newcastle were eyeing the midfielder.

Whether Newcastle will actually go in for him in the next transfer window remains to be seen.

Everybody knows that he is on huge weekly wages. For Newcastle to have any chance he would have to be willing to take a significant pay cut.

There is also the thing of whether Newcastle would actually need him, with attacking midfielder Joe Willock signing in the summer.

Arguably right now, Newcastle should probably be looking at defensive recruits.

Ramsey to Newcastle still massively unlikely

It’s so hard to see the Wales international making a move to Newcastle.

Juventus may be willing to let him go for nothing. That part would likely appeal to Newcastle.

But he’s currently on £400,000-a-week (BBC Sport), which surely puts any move in massive doubt.

For some context, Even if he played for four times less than what he’s on now, he’d still be Newcastle’s top earner.

Newcastle’s league position and lack of ambition are also unlikely to appeal.
