Journalist says Newcastle could sign ‘devastating’ player right at the end of the summer

The links between Newcastle United and Juventus star Federico Chiesa aren’t going away, but one Italian journalist doesn’t see the move being a priority for the winger.

Federico Chiesa‘s future looks to lie away from Juventus with reports linking the 25-year-old with a move away from the Italian giants this summer.

Newcastle have often been credited with an interest in the ‘devastatingItaly winger and there have been uncorroborated rumours of a loan move with an option/obligation to buy. It’s a deal that would definitely suit Newcastle given that they’re allegedly within touching distance of the edge of their Financial Fair Play barrier.

Chiesa would only choose Newcastle if he had few options on the table

However, one journalist in Italy, Marco Guidi, has suggested that Newcastle wouldn’t be one of Chiesa’s preferred destinations.

Speaking to TV Play, Guidi said: “The player would be more inclined to sign for a classic top club, such as Liverpool or Bayern Munich.”

The glaring issue here is that it’s believed that Chiesa would opt for a move to a club playing in the Champions League, which Liverpool will not be doing next season while Newcastle are.

He continued, saying: “If Newcastle have the economic strength they will try to take Chiesa. The Newcastle option could only be taken into consideration at the end of the transfer market, in the case of few offers on the plate.”

If Chiesa wants CL football he’s not getting it at Juventus or Liverpool

While Guidi doesn’t rule out a move to Tyneside for Chiesa he clearly doesn’t feel that he’d be keen on the idea. It reads as a bit disrespectful towards Newcastle in all honesty, and he seems to completely forget where Newcastle finished in the Premier League last season and as a result, which competition they’ll be competing in next term.

It also seems to fly in face of the fact that Newcastle were big enough and exciting enough to attract Sandro Tonali who is arguably a bigger coup for the club than Chiesa would be.

Chiesa, who managed four goals and six assists in his 33 games last season, would be a fine addition to Newcastle’s forward options, but if what Guidi says is true then we are better off not even entertaining the idea. That being said, it’s just one journalist’s opinion and at no point does he quote Chiesa in any of that, so it could well not be the case at all.
