James Trafford tells Newcastle United exactly what he’s got planned this summer amid links

Newcastle United continue to be linked with a move for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Trafford has been impressing for the Clarets this season, after seemingly constant links with a move to Newcastle United last summer.

Newcastle are thought to have agreed personal terms with Trafford, albeit it remains to be seen if the fact Scott Parker’s side have won Premier League promotion complicates matters on that front.

Trafford thinks he’s been “world class” this season and, frankly, it’s difficult to disagree – albeit with the obvious caveat that he’s been playing Championship football applied.

No goalkeeper in the second tier has a better save or clean sheet percentage and while the fact Burnley have only conceded 15 goals this season is a team effort, Trafford’s part in that deserves a mention too.

Newcastle remain keen on Trafford, who has now broken his silence on his future.

James Trafford breaks silence amid claims Newcastle United want to sign him

Trafford was speaking during the EFL Awards hosted in London on Sunday night.

Such has been the level of his form this season, the 22-year-old was named in the Championship team of the season.

Reflecting on the transfer rumours, Trafford insisted he was not paying too much attention to the media speculation regarding his future and will instead focus on a well-earned summer break.

“I’ve got an incredibly good circle around me. It’s very small but it’s incredibly good. When the season ends I’ll go on holiday and relax from football and then I’ll start getting ready for the national team in the summer,” he said (via BBC Sport).

“I don’t go on my phone too much.

“I’m not naive enough to say I don’t see any of the noise around me but it doesn’t bother me. Whatever happens will happen. I’ve done all I can this season.”

Will Newcastle sign James Trafford this summer after Burnley’s promotion?

Obviously, that remains to be seen.

In February, it was claimed that Newcastle expect to sign Trafford this summer

However, Burnley are obviously in a much stronger financial position now after they secured a quick-fire return to the Premier League under former Newcastle midfielder Parker.

Fellow promotion-winners Leeds are interested in Newcastle’s Nick Pope, although it’s hard to imagine Eddie Howe wanting to sell the England international.

Should they sign the Burnley stopper, Newcastle think Trafford and Pope can compete to be their starting goalkeeper.
