James Trafford’s name is frequently mentioned alongside Newcastle United.
Despite having a number of goalkeepers on their books right now, Newcastle United continue to be linked with a move for Trafford.
The Burnley goalkeeper has been in fine form for the Clarets this season and will have been crucial to their promotion, should the Clarets reach the Premier League again.
Trafford has agreed personal terms with Newcastle but, frankly, that does not mean very much it seems.
The club will need to agree a fee with Burnley first, which of course could get complicated should they win promotion from the Championship.
Manchester United also want to sign Trafford, who has come on leaps and bounds this time around following a difficult time of things under Vincent Kompany in the topflight last season.
Indeed, it seems the 22-year-old believes he’s at the top of his game.

James Trafford calls himself “world class” amid Newcastle United links
Trafford pulled off a brilliant save for Burnley against Watford as they claimed a vital win in the promotion race.
Parker the hailed the former Manchester City youngster’s stop as “world class”, while praising his work ethic in training.
Asked about that tag, Trafford said he knew he was in the world class bracket, admittedly with a smile on his face.
“I know I’m a world class goalkeeper,” he laughed.
“The gaffer is class and, yeah, he told me that last Saturday.
“The gaffer is brilliant. It’s a brilliant win for him and the way he’s set us up and the message he delivered at half-time.”
James Trafford’s mind-blowing stats this season
Burnley’s defence as a whole is of course worthy of praise. To have conceded only 14 times in 43 games is absolutely incredible.
Clearly, it’s a team effort but Trafford’s individual contribution is not to be overlooked.
| Goals Conceded | Clean Sheets | Save Percentage | Clean Sheet Percentage |
| 14 | 28 | 84.9% | 66.7% |
No goalkeeper in the Championship boasts a better save percentage (84.9%) or clean sheet percentage (66.7%).
Granted he’s not playing elite level football right now but those kind of statistics make his suggestion about being world class hard to argue with…
