There is absolutely no chance James Rodriguez is leaving Everton and joining Newcastle United.
While there’s been limited transfer activity at St James’ Park this summer, that hasn’t stopped the ridiculous rumours.
2020 was dominated by talk of mega names ahead of the impending takeover which subsequently collapsed. Not as many stars have been linked in 2021, with Joe Willock the only arrival so far.
In fact, he could be our only signing.
But even if there was talk of more names arriving before the window slams shut, there would still be no chance of James Rodriguez moving to the North East.
Despite this, the Colombian has been ‘linked’ with a move to Newcastle – and I mean ‘linked’ in the loosest sense of the word.
You could tell straightaway that this claim was a load of rubbish. But that didn’t stop the media reporting on it…
There is a plethora of reasons why this transfer would never happen, making this rumour the most ridiculous one of the summer.
First things first, his age. He’s over 24, with Mike Ashley seemingly wanting the club to sign young players with re-sale value.
Secondly, his wages. According to Salary Sport, Rodriguez earns £140,000-a-week at Everton. Newcastle are never going to match that.
Next: Where would he fit into our team? We’ve already got too many players playing out of position in this 3-5-2 formation, we don’t need another.
On top of that, why would he come to Newcastle to play for Bruce? The only reason he moved to the Premier League was Carlo Ancelotti. That’s why there’s now talk of him leaving Everton.
And finally, we don’t even have space in our squad right now.
It’s a ridiculous rumour that Newcastle United fans have seen right through.
