England secured their place at the Euros with a 3-1 victory over Italy at Wembley last night, and reported Newcastle target Kalvin Phillips made a rare start.
The 27-year-old has hardly featured for Manchester City this season, and there is plenty of speculation that he could depart in January, with Newcastle now ready to sign him if he decides to leave.
His performance last night in the middle of the park helped England to victory after finding themselves 1-0 down, and a few of his teammates were impressed.
Fellow midfielders Jude Bellingham and James Maddison took to social media to praise Phillips, who moved to City last year for around £45m.

Taking to his Instagram account after the game, Phillips posted a message to express his delight at England’s victory.
“Buzzing to qualify for the EUROS!! Perfect international break with the boys,” he posted.
Bellingham was quick to comment “my brother” on his post, whilst Maddison also posted heart and applause emojis.

Newcastle’s interest in Phillips

Phillips started alongside Declan Rice and Bellingham in the middle last night, but was not fully at his best as he made what was just his third start for club or country this season.
The midfielder picked up a yellow card after making a number of fouls throughout the game, and won just one tackle in 70 minutes.
His passing was solid enough, completing 32 of his 34 attempts, and Newcastle will have been watching him with great interest.
Eddie Howe seemingly wants Phillips at the base of his midfield, and believes that he can provide strong support for the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton to push further forward.
Whilst his defensive strength was not on full display, his ability to cover ground and remain calm on the ball last night perhaps showed why he could be a good addition for the Magpies.
