Highly rated Croatian youngster Dion Drena Beljo has revealed his dream to play for Newcastle United.

Taking to an interview with Sky Sports Germany, the 20-year-old spoke about his footballing future, following links with various moves across Europe.

“I wouldn’t mind winning the Premier League either. I watch almost every game in England. Honestly,” Beljo said.

“The best players in the world play there. The Premier League is the best league in the world. Of course, there are Bayern, Paris and Real in the other leagues.

“But in England there are so many teams with a lot of quality. The football there is very intense, but mainly I watch the games because I play a virtual manager game with my friends. So, I have to keep an eye on everything there. I really enjoy that.

“Most recently Manchester United [are his favourite team] because of Cristiano Ronaldo, but there is another team that will surely surprise you: Newcastle United!

“Because when I was a kid, I watched the film ‘Goal’ and the player in that film fulfilled his dream of a professional career at Newcastle.

“I think Newcastle will be even better in real life. Because of their financial power and the incredible fans. I also like Leeds United, by the way.”

Beljo dreams of Newcastle move

Beljo has made a name for himself across Europe this season, having scored nine goals in 19 appearances for NK Osijek.

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Croatian club are willing to sell the youngster for just £5m, with a winter transfer deemed possible.

Bild claim Borussia Monchengladbach are interested in the 20-year-old, as they look to identify a replacement for the likely departure of Marcus Thuram – who is coincidentally linked with the Magpies.

Whilst Newcastle are yet to publicly declare their stance on the player, Eddie Howe’s side have recently taken a strong approach to recruiting youth talent.

Therefore, having amassed plaudits for his performances for the U21’s Croatia national team, this move wouldn’t be out of character for the Toon to make.

Either way, it truly shows how far Newcastle have come along when a Croatian youngster dreams of playing on Tyneside.
