Newcastle United could now revive their interest in Barcelona’s Ferran Torres as the forward looks set to be placed on the loan list.
Barcelona are still trying to cut down their gargantuan wage bill in order to appease the Financial Fair Play overlords and moves to sell on Ferran Torres have proven to be more difficult than they thought.
With that in mind, Spanish outlet SPORT have claimed that Barcelona could try to loan Torres out for the season in a bid to clear some money from the wage bill.
Torres could be available on loan with an obligation to buy
Any deal would likely include an obligation to buy otherwise Barca would find themselves back to square one when the loan ends.
Newcastle have been linked with Torres this summer, but nothing seemed to develop beyond just being linked in the media.

In January it was believed that Newcastle offered £51million for Torres which was rebuffed by Barcelona, but just last month there were reports that his price had been slashed to around £34million.
Given that Barcelona reduced their asking price and Newcastle still didn’t bite suggests that the Magpies are no longer interested in Torres, but now with a loan offer on the table, could Eddie Howe be tempted to look again?
Newcastle seem to have moved on from Torres
While Torres’ move to the Spanish Champions hasn’t gone as well as he’d have hoped he still found himself making 33 La Liga appearances, scoring four goals and providing two assists. The fact that most of his appearances came as a substitute is what is making Torres unhappy.

Despite that, Torres is determined to see out pre-season at Barca and work his way into Xavi‘s first-team plans for the start of the season. It just feels, however, that the decision on his future will be made at a higher level.
Torres is a fantastic player, we saw that when he bagged a St James’ Park hattrick when playing for Manchester City before his €55million (£47million) switch, but putting two-and-two together, I don’t see another Newcastle approach.
