‘Incredible’ player’s asking price now slashed, after Newcastle once had bid rejected

Newcastle United could now find themselves almost £20million better off than they could have been after Barcelona have slashed the price of 23-year-old forward they bid for in January.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Newcastle approached Barcelona with a £51million bid for former Manchester City winger Ferran Torres in January which was knocked back by the Catalan club.

Now, though, it seems Barca would be willing to accept just £34million for the attacker Pep Guardiola called ‘incredible‘. He’s not had the best of times at Barcelona, in fact last season he started just 18 games, but he is still determined to fight for his place.

Barca have slapped a summer sale sticker on Ferran Torres

Barcelona need to sell players this summer to bring their finances under control and it’s thought that they’d be willing to let Ferran Torres leave as long as they can recoup what they still owe for the forward. It’s a move that could well be a win-win for both clubs.

Newcastle look set to land James Maddison as the England playmaker is edging closer to a move to Tyneside after apparently turning his back on a move to Tottenham in favour of Champions League football and working with Eddie Howe.

With the additions of Maddison and Torres that would be a fantastic start to the transfer window and would likely see our midfield business concluded leaving Eddie Howe to turn his attention to the left-back and centre-back positions.

Newcastle should make their move quickly if they still want Torres

Arguably there could still be scope for the Magpies to bring in a central defensive midfielder, but with Maddison and Torres being so adept at attacking, that could leave Bruno Guimaraes to drop back into that holding role and dictate the play from deep.

It’s all guess work at this point, obviously, and I’m sure Eddie Howe knows exactly what he’s doing, but for me, if we can pick up Ferran Torres for just £34million, I say we do it right now before anyone else cottons on.
