Newcastle United star Alexander Isak and former target Hugo Ekitike look like two of the biggest names to follow ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

There is no suggestion Isak will leave Newcastle United this summer of course but that has done little to stop the constant reports suggesting a monied Premier League rival will come in for him.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Ekitike if Isak leaves this summer, albeit the idea of him joining alongside the superstar Sweden international looks unlikely.

Indeed, Newcastle tried to sign Ekitike in 2022 and he instead joined Paris Saint-Germain from boyhood club Reims. Unsurprisingly, he struggled for game time in the French capital behind the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

However, the 22-year-old has rebuilt himself at Eintracht Frankfurt and continues to be linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Eintracht Frankfurt raise Hugo Ekitike price tag once again

The Frenchman has scored 21 goals while registering nine assists across all competitions this season.

Recently, it was claimed that Frankfurt value Ekitike at around £77million.

Now, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg suggests Frankfurt CEO Markus Krosche is ready to demand a whopping €100m for his services, which roughly equates to £85.7million.

For context, Isak cost Newcastle £63million in the summer of 2022.

Why did Hugo Ekitike reject Newcastle United?

The rejection at the time hurt.

The forward and his representatives appeared to have led Newcastle on a merry dance before joining PSG anyway, although it’s a decision to have worked out well on Tyneside considering Isak’s remarkable success since.

Still, to the player’s credit, his logic made sense. At the time, the Magpies were not in the Champions League and no one was quite sure how the PIF project would play out.

Ekitike confirmed he simply couldn’t refuse PSG’s offer, claiming that all young French players would want to be a part of the journey in Paris.

In 2022, he told Le Parisien: “I’m not setting aside everything Newcastle did for me to come. If I had to go abroad, I would have gone there. But when PSG wants you and you’re French, you can’t refuse.”
