Hugo Ekitike now makes fresh Premier League decision after rejecting Newcastle last year

Things would have been incredibly different had Hugo Ekitike accepted a transfer to Newcastle United in 2022.

The Magpies first failed to sign Ekitike in January 2022, with the Frenchman turning down a deadline day move to St James’ Park.

However, Newcastle were not put off, and reignited their interest that summer. Eddie Howe’s side even agreed a £25million deal with Stade Reims, as they looked to add more depth to their side whilst snapping up Callum Wilson’s future replacement.

All that was left to do was agree personal terms, but that was not possible. Instead, Newcastle walked away from the deal, with Ekitike snubbing the Magpies for a second time.

The ‘special‘ forward went on to join Paris Saint-Germain, and that has proven to be a mistake. Ekitike barely featured last season, and now he is completely out of favour. That was evident earlier this month when he was nowhere to be seen as Newcastle smashed PSG 4-1 in the Champions League.

Newcastle have hit major heights without Ekitike, signing Alexander Isak instead for a club record fee.

As for the 21-year-old, he is now looking for a move away from PSG, and is eyeing a chance in the league he snubbed just last year.

Hugo Ekitike keen to sign for Premier League club

According to 90min, PSG have told Ekitike that he is free to leave the club in January. They add that he is interested in signing for a team in the Premier League.

However, there is unlikely to be any interest from Newcastle. Instead, 90min claim that West Ham could potentially be keen on a deal.

In a way, it would be nice to see Ekitike move to the Premier League, just to see how he would cope in the top flight of English football. It would also give Toon fans the chance to tell him exactly what they think of him after his 2022 snub.

In truth, Newcastle supporters should be glad that Ekitike said no. If he had joined, we probably would not have got Isak, and perhaps the memories of last season and the current campaign would be very different.
