How Sven Botman feels about Newcastle after Liverpool transfer rumours as release clause mooted

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman is open to extending his stay on Tyneside.

Botman, who now looks back to his best after putting his injury problems behind him, is only under contract at Newcastle United for another 18 months or so.

Indeed, Botman’s Newcastle contract expires in the summer of 2027.

The Dutch defender has missed 59 games through injury during his time at the club but has returned to form this season.

Eddie Howe has been impressed with Botman, who has already made eight appearances so far.

Worryingly, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Botman. Arguably one of the best defenders in the Premier League when fully fit, it’s logical that other clubs would take an interest in him now the injuries appear to have cleared up.

Luckily for Newcastle, the former Lille defender is reportedly happy on Tyneside.

Sven Botman open to new Newcastle United contract

According to iNews, Botman is open to signing a new deal at Newcastle.

With Ross Wilson now through the door as the club’s new sporting director, Newcastle will hope to seal an agreement quickly.

It’s also claimed that any deal would likely include a release clause. The same is said about potential new contracts for Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.

Newcastle United risk not even making much of a profit on Sven Botman

Newcastle paid around £35million to sign Botman from Lille in 2022 and, when fit, that looks like a huge bargain.

Still, unless they can agree a deal with him soon, the club are vulnerable.

A player coming towards the final stages of his contract can rarely command anything like maximum value in the transfer market.

There’s also the prospect of Botman leaving for free in the summer of 2027 unless an agreement can be found.

While it’s promising to read that the player seems willing, action needs to be taken soon.
