How Newcastle officials have reacted to rumours of Ferran Torres arriving

Rumours of Newcastle United trying to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona refuse to go away in the Spanish media.

The Magpies are looking for a player like Ferran Torres, with Eddie Howe eager to add a new winger to his Newcastle United squad to take his attack to the next level.

He needs someone who is an improvement on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, and Ferran Torres would certainly fit the bill. The Spaniard was impressive in the Premier League with Manchester City, and was part of the Spain squad that just won Euro 2024. On top of that, he is only 24-year-old and still has scope to get a lot better.

Newcastle were linked with Ferran Torres earlier this summer

Torres is an exciting talent, which is why rumours in the Spanish media about a bid of less than £20million from Newcastle last month were met with excitement.

However, talk of an offer was quickly played down. Luke Edwards reported that Newcastle had not made a bid for Torres, admitting that there was ‘no truth’ in reports of an offer.

The Telegraph journalist poured cold water over rumours of Torres arriving on Tyneside, but his update came as no surprise.

However, the speculation has continued, and there has since been a further story in Spain about Newcastle making an offer for Torres. This time it was claimed to be worth £25million.

Newcastle ‘bemused’ by Ferran Torres claim

Talk of any Newcastle bid is exciting, but this is another story that has been played down by the club.

According to the Athletic, Newcastle officials were left ‘bemused’ by claims that they had offered £25million for Torres.

There has been no approach for the Premier League winger, who Barcelona are seemingly keen to move on during the summer transfer window.

Toon officials are looking elsewhere

While Newcastle are looking for a player like Torres, he does not appear to be on the Magpies’ radar.

He has only been linked with Newcastle by the Spanish press, with those in England playing down talk of a move to St James’ Park.

However, it remains unclear which winger the Magpies will sign this summer. Nico Gonzalez has been linked with Newcastle, after recently winning the Copa America with Argentina. He could be available for as little as £25million.

Alternatively, Newcastle would no doubt love to sign Torres’ Euro 2024 teammate Nico Williams. He was incredible for Spain, and would be a dream signing for Eddie Howe’s side.

However, Newcastle appreciate that Williams will be too expensive.
