How Newcastle officials feel after rumours that Bruno Guimaraes could leave

More days go by without anyone activating Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause.

The Newcastle United midfielder is very much available this month, with his £100million release clause there to be activated if anyone sees fit. The clock is ticking though, with the clause due to have expired by June 24th.

Newcastle United have less than two weeks to go before they can relax, as they keep everything crossed that Bruno Guimaraes remains at St James’ Park.

Of course, the transfer window is still open and clubs can still bid for Bruno once his release clause is no longer available. However, Newcastle will have the power, and will be in a position to say no to any bid that comes their way.

But right now they are powerless, and there have been some fears that a club like Manchester City could come in with a £100million offer – especially now that they are not signing Bruno’s close friend Lucas Paqueta.

Newcastle’s United’s Bruno Guimaraes frustration grows

While Bruno was preparing to represent Brazil on Wednesday night, there was some nonsense on social media that suggested his release clause had been activated. It was exactly that – nonsense – with no bid forthcoming from Man City, or anyone for that matter.

It was needless scaremongering, at a time when Toon fans are very nervous about Bruno’s future.

For club officials, they can do nothing, and the Chronicle have provided an update on the mood inside St James’ Park regarding keeping Bruno on Tyneside.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle officials are starting to get tired of speculation that Bruno is going to leave, with rumours of moves to the likes of Man City or PSG starting to frustrate them.

However, the Chronicle add that they understand that, because the 26-year-old has a release clause in his contract, speculation is inevitable.

There will be proper frustration if Bruno Guimaraes leaves St James’ Park

As long as it remains just speculation, the club’s higher-ups should be happy. While the rumours are frustrating, they are just rumours at this stage.

The real concern will come if someone finds £100million to spend on a player who Eddie Howe believes is world class. That will create a real problem for Newcastle United, as it will mean they need to replace a top level player who has been pivotal to every bit of the club’s success since the takeover.

The only positive – and I mean it in the loosest sense of the word – from Bruno going would be the PSR boost. Newcastle need to sell someone before June 30th, and getting £100million for him would allow the Magpies to reinvest in a major way.

But that is not worth thinking about right now. To everyone associated with Newcastle United, Bruno is priceless. We absolutely need to keep him, and there will be celebrations if June 24th arrives with the Brazilian still part of Eddie Howe’s squad.
