Newcastle United are battling to keep Anthony Gordon this summer, with Manchester City the latest club to be linked.
The 23-year-old is one of Eddie Howe’s most important players, but that did not stop Newcastle United considering selling him last month.
That is how desperate the Magpies’ PSR situation was, with PIF desperate to avoid a points deduction. It looks like they have done that with the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, but there was a brief fear that they would have to cash in on someone like Anthony Gordon.
The prospect of a deal was floated to Liverpool, but they said no once they discovered that Newcastle valued Gordon at more than £80million. However, speculation over a move to Anfield has led to fears that Gordon’s head has been turned.

Anthony Gordon speculation continues
Now the media is rife with talk about Gordon’s Toon future, with a new club entering the conversation at the weekend.
As well as Liverpool, a rumour emerged that Manchester City would like to sign the England international.
However, that link has now been played down at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United respond to Manchester City claim
That is according to the Chronicle, who state that Newcastle United have told them that claims of an enquiry from Man City for Gordon are not true.
There has been no approach from Pep Guardiola’s side, while the Chronicle also add that there has been no fresh interest from Liverpool since a deal was suggested late last month.
Of course, Liverpool could potentially come back in for winger later in the summer, but Newcastle are of the belief that they can keep Gordon at the club. That is what fans are hoping for, amid suggestions that the Magpies will soon look to hand Gordon a new contract.
Man City do not need Anthony Gordon
Talk of a move to Liverpool does make sense, as Gordon is from the area. From what he has said in interviews, it feels like the attacker is actually a fan of the Reds, despite coming through the Everton academy.
But a deal will only come about if Arne Slot’s side make a huge offer. Whether or not they do that remains to be seen, but they certainly were not willing to before June 30th.
As for Manchester City, they do not seem to be in the market for a winger. It was recently reported that they could go into the new season without any new signings, although a midfielder like Bruno Guimaraes could be on Man City’s radar if they let someone else in that position leave.
While they could do with having a player like Bruno, they do not need Anthony Gordon. That is why rumours of a move to the Eithad seemed strange, and they have proven to be exactly that.
