Newcastle United could finally see some movement in their plans to sign Yoane Wissa this summer.
Wissa is desperate to join Newcastle United, who are said to view the DR Congo international as a Callum Wilson replacement.
That potentially means that even Wissa’s arrival would not necessarily unlock the doors for Alexander Isak to leave St James’ Park this summer.
Newcastle are expected to accelerate their interest in Wissa now that Brentford are close to landing a replacement in the form of Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara.
Still, Brentford have proven themselves as tough negotiators and – having already sold Bryan Mbeumo this summer – are unlikely to make life easy for Newcastle.
While they are prepared to let the forward leave this summer, he won’t come cheaply.
- Who is Yoane Wissa? Newcastle United’s £55m Alexander Isak replacement

Yoane Wissa price tag set for Newcastle United
According to The Standard, Newcastle are weighing up making an offer worth around £35million for the 28-year-old.
The Magpies have already seen one offer rejected by the Bees, who are said to want a fee much closer to their £50million valuation of the forward.
That could include an initial fee of £35million with a further £5million coming by way of various add-ons.
However, the imminent arrival of Ouattara has seen them relax in their stance that Wissa isn’t for sale, which is an obvious boost for Newcastle.
Newcastle United could be about to prove Eddie Howe wrong
Howe didn’t want Wilson to leave Newcastle, amid an acceptance that it would be difficult to replace him.
While not to be disrespectful to Wilson, who was a brilliant player for Newcastle, signing Wissa would prove that theory wrong.
| Record over last two seasons | Callum Wilson | Yoane Wissa |
| Games | 48 | 75 |
| Minutes played | 1796 | 5705 |
| Goals | 11 | 31 |
| Assists | 1 | 9 |
At his best, Wilson would have been incredibly hard to replace. The last few seasons, however, have not been kind to him on the injury front.
Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals last season and looks ready to hit the ground running.
At 28, he’s not exactly a long-term heir for Isak but there’s every reason to suggest he’ll make more of an impact than Wilson over the past two seasons.
